Rising global energy demand and the need to drastically cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions require a transformation in the way we produce, deliver and consume energy, according to a new joint report from the OECD and IEA.
"The launch of the Eye on Earth network is a great leap forward in helping organisations provide the public with authoritative data on the environment and in helping citizens around the world better understand some of the most pressing environmental challenges in their local area," said Jacqueline McGlade, executive director of EEA.

Air pollution from the 10,000 largest polluting facilities in Europe cost citizens between € 102 and 169 billion in 2009. This was one of the findings of a new report from the European Environment Agency (EEA) which analysed the costs of harm to health and the environment caused by air pollution. Half of the total damage cost (between € 51 and 85 billion) was caused by just 191 facilities.
The plan proposes three projects to expand Mali's solar PV, mini-hydro, and bio-fuel technologies, with important provisions for capacity building and project management critical to the success of this program and the long-term transformation of Mali's renewable energy sector.

The project will help GDC design and test an investment and project structure that could be replicated to develop other fields. SREP's capacity building support will also lend credibility to GDC and inspire private investor confidence.

The Sustainable Management of Natural Resources and Climate Change Project will benefit 16,000 Uruguayan farmers through co-financing of land projects to improve their production systems, the creation of a National Agricultural Information System and institutional strengthening and training.
The program will strengthen the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Energy and Mining to design and implement investment measures in energy efficiency and energy conservation in the public sector.
