TORESA has six modules: Geophysics, Hydrogeological Modeling, Processing of Satellite Images, Chemical and Mineral Identification; Environmental Soundings and Risk Assessment. The results are included in a Geographic Information System (GIS), which will provide future plans for environmental mine management. The results are presented as a digital data base on the Environmental Mining Management website (GAM).

The TORESA project, Toolkit for Remote Sensing Risk Assessment and Environmental Monitoring of Mining Activities, aims to create a technology package for the low cost evaluation of the environmental risk associated with a mining operation and to support the preparation of closure plans.

Description
Financed by the Chile-Sweden Cooperation Fund, TORESA has six modules: Geophysics, Hydrogeological Modeling, Processing of Satellite Images, Chemical and Mineral Identification; Environmental Soundings and Risk Assessment. The results are included in a Geographic Information System (GIS), which will provide future plans for environmental mine management. The results are presented as a digital data base on the Environmental Mining Management website (GAM).

Expected Results
Generation of a Technology Service for mining companies. The TORESA methodology is used for its implementation.

Alliances
Fundación Chile, Swedish Environmental Research Institute Ltd., Hidroambiente Consultores, Geoinformación, SRGIS and Cia. Chilena de Perforaciones.
